Robert P. Gilpin received his B.A. from Princeton and his M.A. and Ph.D. in history from Duke University. Mr. Gilpin taught at Duke, Sweet Briar College, and Phillips Exeter Academy before he assumed a teaching post at Milton Academy. During his 26 years at Milton Academy, Mr. Gilpin was awarded the Philip Weld Chair in American History and was named one of six Master Teachers in 1996. After retiring from his teaching post, Mr. Gilpin remained on the faculty to consult for the school through 2004, when he retired officially. Mr. Gilpin is the co-author of Time Out: Taking a Break from School to Travel, Work, Study in the U.S. and Abroad and is the founder of WhereYouHeaded.  His latest book, Getting Through Isn't Enough: Navigating High School and the College Process, is in process.  As an educational resource for Young Presidents, Mr. Gilpin has presented in locations around the world.  He also is a frequent speaker at higher education association meetings, including the National Association of College Admissions Counselors and Higher Education Counselors Association.  Mr. Gilpin spoke  at the 2006 NACAC meeting in Pittsburgh, PA, at the regional SACAC meeting in Atlanta, Georgia in the spring of 2007, and to a private school consortium in San Diego California in February of 2008.  He spoke most recently at the National Association of College Admissions Counselors convention in Seattle, Washington in September of 2008. Mr. Gilpin served as one of three college counselors at the Bishop's School in La Jolla, California in the spring of 2009 and again in the spring of 2011. Mr. Gilpin now practices from the island of Martha's Vineyard, where he resides.
